Planetary Gears (Animated)

Right click on video and select "loop" for a better experience

I made these planetary gears in Solidworks to help me understand how they worked but also to improve CAD skills with certain challenges like getting the gears to work properly together, achieving the right shape of gear tooth as well as improving other details such as the knurling. I animated the gears in Solidworks and then imported this into Visualize for rendering. This video was rendered at 4k @60fps, only rendering 1/3 rotation of the gear carrier (using a loop to make it then rotate forever). Each frame was set to render on "Hybrid" for 22minutes, however, during rendering, the software switched to "CPU-only" for unknown reasons, causing a great reduction in image quality. Other details include the depth of field affect, keeping the foreground more in focus.

This animation has now been used in my A-level engineering project as part of exploring different gearbox types.
